The regular season has ended and 4 teams have made the playoffs. American
Division team #1 Mayne/Reitzel will face off with
National Division team #2 Klein/Bohman, and National #1
Ryan/Malec will take on American #2 Opel/Patrick.
Best of luck to all the participants.
For those of you not in the playoffs,
Tom and Chuck have devised an fun outing for next Wednesday night.
Tom passed out the rules last week, but I'm going to suggest he do
a "reply to all" and email those rules out (and I can
post them on the website if you want).
Manny is still looking for contributions
for door prizes for the year-end tourney. Let him know if you and/or
your company can donate something. BTW, Joe Peters has volunteered
to be our tourney chairman next year.
And be thinking about any changes
or suggestions about the league going forward. We always appreciate
your input.
See ya Wednesday!
August 2, 2009 - Sodhoppers Update
Scores have been posted to the site,
and make sure you check the photo
gallery for all the latest pics. Three reminders/bits of news:
Two
more weeks of the regular season, then two
weeks of playoffs/fun times. If the playoffs
started today, #1 team
in the American Division (Reitzel/Mayne)
would square off against National Division #2 (Klein/Bohman),
and #1 National (Ryan/Malec) would face #2 American
(Opel/Patrick).
But lots can change in two weeks, so stay tuned! For those who don't
qualify, we'll have a fun outing, format still TBD.
Everybody has
been doing a much better job of getting me sub
money,
and that's totally appreciated. We've accumulated a good chunk so far
and that will go a long towards our bar bill at the tourney.
I know I haven't got money from everyone, however (8 subs last week,
I collected $20), so your continued attention to this is appreciated,
and if you know you've missed paying me, my deposit window is still
open.
The tourney is Saturday
September 19, 8:00AM tee off at Lafayette Hills
Country Club.
Please make sure you are available to play. If you cannot attend, please
make arrangements ASAP for a sub. Golf, cart, dinner, and some drinks
are covered in your league fee, and we ask subs to donate $20 for
the day of fun. I know Matt Barden is begging to play the tourney,
so give him a call if you need a sub. And if you or your company
can donate something for tourney prizes, please get them to Manny
Condon.
OK, that's it. See y'all on Wednesday.
June 22, 2009 - Halfway Point Standings Update
With 8 weeks down and 8 weeks yet to go of our regular season (before 2
weeks of playoffs and our year-end tourney), I thought we'd check the standings.
In the American division, McIndoe/Coakley and Reitzel/Mayne are
tied atop the standings at 180 points, with Blackburn/Gomon 11
points back.
On the National side of things, Kobuszewski/Matkoski at
170 hold a slim 5-point edge over Ryan/Malec, with Klein/Bohman another
5 back.
Just a reminder that only the top two teams in each division make the playoffs
in week 17.
I posted a bunch more pictures to the photo
gallery.
See y'all Wednesday, weather should be great.
June 14, 2009 - Tourney Info and Sub Stuff
Year-end Tourney director Manny Condon reports that the 2009 outing
has been booked, and it's scheduled for Saturday
September 19 at Lafayette
Hills Golf and Country Club. Tee times begin at 8:00 AM. Thanks to
Manny, Reitzel, and Klein for getting this locked in. Details,
maps, etc., are on the website. As always, we depend on the generosity of
you and your companies to donate items that we can use for prizes.
Please come up with some great stuff, and let Manny know what you can
contribute.
We'll have our own private beverage cart for the outing,
traveling just between our 6 groups, and it'll be paid for from the
sub money that I collect throughout the year. Sadly, however, sub
contributions have not been keeping up with the number of subs playing. 23 rounds
have been played by subs so far this year (should net $115), but so
far I've only collected $70. I know I had to bail right after the round
for a rehearsal a couple of times, but please try and catch me and
get me the sub money. I won't chase after anybody, but I'll keep reminding
y'all.
It's been a fun season so far, with lots of shifts in the standings,
and lots more fun to come. McIndoe/Coakley lead the American Division
by 5 over Reitzel/Mayne, while Kobuszewski/Matkoski sit atop the National
Division by just 2 over Ryan/Malec.
Make sure to check the photo gallery on the website. See ya Wednesday!
May 14, 2009 - We're All Handicapped
I've posted the scores from this week on the website (yes,
Bill, we've solidified our position in the cellar), including the handicaps we have established so far this year. Starting next Wednesday, we'll
start using these handicaps.
I've also posted a new photo gallery for
this year's pics. Hopefully this new system will allow me to more easily
post new pictures (it was quite an undertaking in the past), plus make
it easy for you guys to negotiate through it.
Enjoy!
April 27, 2009 - There Is (NOT!!) Another Opening
Tom Cardinal forwarded me this message this morning:
It was just rolled out this morning that I will have to spend
Wed evenings here at work. I do not know if you will be able to replace
me, and I believe this affects Joe also, though I have not communicated
this with him. My best guess is that neither of us will be able to
golf this summer. I do know I cannot.
I deeply apologize and was looking
forward to the league. I apologize for the late notice.
So if you
know of anybody that's interested in joining us for the summer, we've
got a spot available for a 2-man team. See y'all on Wednesday.
UPDATE 4/28: Tom Cardinal just called, and he and Joe O'Haver
were able to arrange an early exit from work on Wednesdays after all,
so they will be able to play. Thanks to Jim Ligoci for finding us a
couple of replacements, but as Tom and Joe played last year, they have
first dibs on the spots.
See y'all tomorrow - please be there around
4 so we can get introduced or re-acquainted and organized and get off
the first tee on time. $275 to Cadaret Grant. $5 to Grief for skins,
subs give me $5 for the tourney fund. Yeah, baby!
April 16, 2009 - Love this Weather!
Two weeks from yesterday (April 29) is
opening night for the Syracuse Sodhoppers golf league, and I can't wait.
A few more details to tie up:
I got a note from Frank Cook saying that he and his
dad would need to back out of the league this summer. Luckily, Joe Peters
had a couple of guys that were looking to join a league, so I'd like
to welcome Mike
Hart and Mike Moritz to the Sodhoppers. Make
sure you all introduce yourselves and make them feel welcome. Or just
buy them a drink; I'm sure that would work, too.
Grief told me he'd be happy to do skins again, so that's taken
care of. $5 weekly skins again this year?
Remember to bring your $275 check, payable to Cadaret Grant,
to league the first night and give it to Jeff Klein.
And don't forget that we ask subs to donate $5 to
our year-end tourney bar tab fund. Have them give me the money.
The schedule, player
info, pictures, news (including all the emails I
send out) are posted to our rockin' website. Make sure
you check it out - it can answer a lot of your questions.
Swing hard!
Paul
April 8, 2009 - Three weeks away, Sodhoppers
3 weeks from today we begin the festivities for 2009. Yee-frickin-haw!!
A few notes:
Cost for the season is $275, the same as last year.
That includes 18 weeks of golf and the year-end tourney.
Please bring a check, payable to "Cadaret Grant," on
the first night of league (Apr 29) and give it to Jeff Klein.
He is our treasurer.
Unfortunately, I got word earlier this week that Al Huntington had
to drop out of the league, so Jeff Ryan needed to
find a replacement partner. Luckily, John Malec has
agreed to return in Al's place, and we're very excited to have him
back.
Who wants to do skins this year? Grief gave me
the impression at the end of the year that he didn't want the job
again this year.
I don't plan any rules/scoring changes this year. Though I think
Matt Barden's name should be on the plaque ...
Our first tee time is 4:40, same as in the past, but please please
please please be early, especially the first few weeks, so that we
get going on time and don't delay the leagues behind us.
Alright, enough fun. See y'all soon!
January 11, 2009 - Thinking About Golf Yet?
I'm just doing a few little housekeeping things on the website, so
I thought I'd post a quick bit of news.
After looking at a calendar,
I have determined that Wednesday April 29 will
be the first night for the league, finishing up on Wednesday
August 26.
We'll send an email out soon, asking for commitments for play this
year. We don't expect too many changes, but you just never know.
